An impressive architectural ensemble, surrounded by a wall which has hardly been altered since the middle Ages. A protective environment, preserving the Medieval and natural aspect of the zone which envelops the monastery. From the Puerta Real begins a visit across the distinct premises of an ancient closed-order and the experiencing of magic from the past.
The Santa Maria de Poblet monastery is a place of peace, where the remains of the Aragon Crown are laid to rest. It was a cornerstone in the consolidation of power in Cataluña after the count of Barcelona Ramón Berenguer IV seized it from the Arabs. In 1835, it suffered damage in a fire. The restoration began in 1930 and monks came back in 1940, returning the majesty it deserves.
