The National Museum of Art of Catalonia explains through its collections the history of Catalan art, from its first Roman manifestations all the way up until the 1940s of the 20th century, a continued discourse in which different artistic techniques interrelate to offer a global vision of each period.
Being a national museum, it is made up of various buildings distributed in different areas around Barcelona: The National Museum of Art of Catalonia, The Museum of Modern Art, and the General Library of Art History.
The Gothic collection is magnificent with objects from all over Spain. The renaissance and baroque collections include works by El Greco, Velazquez, Ribera, Ribalta, and Zurbarán.
