A fascinating route through the authentic heart of Barcelona, starting at the most famous avenue in the city, Las Ramblas. Enjoy the illustrious buildings, shops, cafes, and street vendors along with the Boqueria Market. Later, we visit the Gothic Quarter, the Plaza del Rey, and to where the Catholic Kings received Cristopher Columbus on his return from his first trip to the new world. Finally the Cathedral, a grandiose construction in breathtaking Gothic style.
We will visit the following: Las Ramblas, Barrio Gótico, La Catedral.
Las Ramblas: The historic avenue of Las Ramblas is lively at all hours. Newspaper stands, vendors of birds and flowers, card players, living statues, and musicians give life to this central artery. It is the most cosmopolitan avenue of the city, an indispensable stop for anyone who wants to get to know the true essence of Barcelona.
Barrio Gótico: It was the location chosen by the Romans to create a new colony in the times of Agustus. In the place where the ancient Roman forum was located, today is Plaza Sant Jaume with the Generalitat Palace (the headquarters of the Catalan government) and the City Hall of Barcelona.
La Catedral: This grandiose gothic cathedral with the roman Santa Lucia chapel and handsome cloister was the principal devotion center of Medieval Barcelona. Construction began in 1298 over a roman church which was built over a Visigoth church even further back in time.
